Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this 4 week book club, we will explore ""The Wishing Spell" by Chris Colfer. This class is to provide a social opportunity and increase reading comprehension. The assigned chapters will be read BEFORE class. During our class your learner will be drawing main events and key story elements on their fairy tale page. This encourages a key reading comprehension strategy called, visualization. Visualization encourages students to look for key details and stop and think about the text. While working on these pages, the class we will be discussing the story elements and answering comprehension questions. The questions are meant to guide discussion not just recall information. At the end of class each learner is encouraged to give their opinion or a mini book review on the chapters read. This is another great way to improve reading comprehension.

**Reminder these chapters must be read prior to the class. For example week one we will be discussing chapters 1-6, so those must be read before class**

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome to my classroom! My name is Jessica, my students call me, Ms. Jessica. I have been an online educator for over three years. I received my B.S in Management and Leadership in 2016 and then moved onto my master's program to receive my Masters of Arts in Teaching for Special Education. In 2020 with a semester and left and my student teaching I decided to stay home and homeschool my own kiddos! I have a boy with Down syndrome and another little boy. My special education background allows me to customize my classes and adapt to any learner. When I am not teaching I enjoy taking our family dog on walks, spending time in nature, reading books of all kind, watching history documentaries, cooking, and spending time with my family.
