Your child will get to roll up their sleeves and spend a time baking a Jamaican Toto Cake in The Kitchen Science Club! However, secretly, they will also be learning key life skills that will help them as adults! Skills such as measuring, math skills, gross motor skills and problem solving to name a few! We will discuss the science of why we need certain ingredients work together and how we can create "Switch Ups" to change the flavour of the recipe! But that's not all.... your child will get...
In this class, students will learn and practice the following: They will learn how to measure, calculate, mix and bake a recipes that they can enjoy after the class. They will learn the science of why mixing certain ingredients together to form cookies and what essential ingredients they need for success. They will practice skills such as hand-eye coordination, problem solving and math skills. They will learn about safety in a kitchen and how to use proper protective equipment such as gloves and aprons. They will receive a mini booklet of the recipe, along with essential terms, tricks and switch ups that they can print and keep in a binder for future reference
Please take a picture of your recipe and add it to your Kitchen Science Club recipe book. Complete the extra activity and post it on the class discussion.
1 file available upon enrollmentYou will need the following supplies for this class (we will supply an easy to follow checklist, once enrolled) Ingredients Needed: Margarine or butter, sugar, egg, vanilla, lime, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, grated coconut, milk, flour Equipment Needed: Mixing bowl, chef knife, whisk or a hand mixer, measuring cups and spoons, scale (if you are weighing your ingredients), muffin tin, cutting board, spatula, cooling rack, non stick cooking spray

Safety Requirements: Children will be using the oven and kitchen equipment. Please monitor them for their safety and have protective equipment such as mitts and aprons available.They may also need assistance using a knife. A safety checklist is included in the master checklist. Allergy Notes: This recipe uses coconut, dairy products, eggs and flour. Should you need to alter the recipe, message me privately through Outschool to discuss alternatives.
