Class Experience

Complete in 4 weeks or 4 days--you determine the pace! I often hear that certain basic manners are lacking in middle and high school, but it's hard to get upset with the kids, as they don't know what they don't know; I have a class geared toward 10-15 year olds, but have found there is a demand for younger kids as well, which is what this is! This class introduces/reinforces the basics as the social sphere of 5-10 year olds expands beyond the home to school, extracurricular activities, and all the experiences that come along with them. If scheduling a time in the summer is more difficult for you, this is the version to take!

For each class, students will view the content video with a specific focus and can then submit any questions via classroom messaging--while asynchronous, I will be available throughout the week to answer any questions from students or parents within a timely manner. Since most of the videos exceed the size limit available for upload to Outschool, I am posting them on a private YouTube channel made only for my classes, and then each video will be embedded within the classroom--at no point will students leave the OutSchool learning platform.

I am on Eastern Standard Time, which doesn't matter as much with this being a Flex class, but am most available from 7:00am - 8:00pm (EST) for correspondence. I will offer staggered sections so you can enroll during a period that works best for you!

What we cover (topics subject to being rearranged based on need & feedback):

Class 1:
-Introduction
-When to (and *why* we) say "please" and "thank you"
-Asking permission

Class 2:
-Conducting yourself in public
-Keeping yourself entertained without electronics
-Being mindful of how loud you are
-Waiting your turn

Class 3:
-Meeting new people
-Always being kind...even when you don't feel like it
-Interacting with your elders

Class 4:
-Eating at a restaurant or at someone's home
-Going to a birthday party or friend's house
-Proper table etiquette

Material will be presented via a prerecorded video with a supplemental handout of what is covered; students & parents will be encouraged to ask questions, offer observations, and any suggestions via messaging in the "classroom", which will be addressed in a return message or additional video!
