The Key to Reading Comprehension
The objective of this class is to help middle school age students (especially struggling readers) to comprehend informational texts, using various reading strategies, along with text related questions.

By the end of this class, you will be able to use various reading strategies and skills, along with text related questions to comprehend informational texts. The students will learn and understand: Week 1: How to determine the meaning of unknown words using context clues Week 2: How to determine the main/central idea of informational texts Week 3: Identify text features and text structures Week 4: Identify the purpose or reason why authors write a piece of text to their readers Students can have basic or no knowledge of reading standards but are able to read. Assistance will be provided if a student struggles with reading the texts. The texts will be age appropriate, and on or little below/above grade level base on my evaluation of students' reading levels. Homework Assignments: Students will be given materials that they will learn the day prior to class, so they can review the materials ahead of time, as well as after class. Students will be evaluated base on their performance during class (students are encouraged to participate), this is will tell me how well the students are comprehending the content being covered. Homework performance will be used as an additional evaluation.
