In this ongoing class, students will come together once a week to sing new songs, old familiar songs, and learn music concepts. Think of this course like an elementary music class that students get on a weekly basis in school. Students may be on their feet dancing, or sitting playing maracas or shakers, or standing using scarves for this class. We will sing songs with hand movements, songs with full-body movement, and songs that use imaginative play. We'll also sing call & response and echo...
This class is taught in English.
This course will strengthen a child's social/emotional development, language development, as well as fine and large motor development. It will increase creativity, imagination, confidence, pitch, and rhythm skills and allow for self-expression. Students will learn to read rhythms, recognize notes, musical symbols, instruments, and learn beginning music theory concepts. Students will develop better listening skills and increase their love and understanding of music. Music classes play an important role in language development and school readiness.

No formal homework. Students may be asked to gather or find a specific item in their home for use in class, and occasionally, students may need to print out something and prepare it before class. Notification and instructions will be given at least a week in advance.
1. Students will need a shaker of some kind to use occasionally in class. Maracas, shaker eggs, rattles, or tambourines may be used, or you can make a homemade shaker by taking a small plastic container or jar and filling it partway with dried beans or rice. 2. Students will need a scarf to use as we move with the music in class, preferably one that is light or flowy. 3. Students may on occasion, be asked to print out something and prepare it before class such as a color-and-cut sheet to make a puppet or a coloring page to illustrate a piece of music. Notification and instructions will be given at least a week in advance.
No formal grades will be given.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
