Book Description (from front inside book jacket cover): "Orphan, clock keeper, and thief, Hugo lives in the walls of the Paris train station, where his survival depends on secrets and anonymity. But when his world suddenly interlocks - like the gears of the clocks he keeps - with an eccentric, bookish girl and a bitter old man who runs a toy booth in the train station, Hugo's undercover life and his most precious secret are put in jeopardy. A cryptic drawing, a treasured notebook, a stolen key, a mechanical man, and a hidden message from Hugo's dead father form the backbone of this ... spellbinding mystery. With 284 pages of original drawings, and combining elements of picture book, graphic novel, and film, Brian Selznick ... creates an entirely new reading experience." General Class Description: Each week we will discuss plot elements, character development, figurative language, illustrative story telling, or the author's use of literary devices. Teacher expertise and credentials
Teaching the love of reading is a passion of mine! I don't believe in reading logs or limits, but reading for learning, engagement, and discussion. When we share the books we are reading it makes us better readers! Having some one to "geek out" with over character development, plot twists, and cliff hanger endings makes us feel like we belong and gives us the confidence to keep reading. I've been a classroom teacher for over 15 years with experience teaching grades 1 - 5 as a classroom teacher and k-8 as a "specials" teacher. I have a Master's degree in education from George Mason University and many credentials for continuing education.
