Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
In this ongoing class, learners will get to use their imaginations to create a memorable pretend play activity with their toys.

Learners will get to pretend play with their toys such as dolls, action figures, stuffed animals, playsets, toy vehicles, blocks, and more.

Learners are also invited to bring and use their basic art/school supplies such as paper, crayons, markers, stickers, molding dough, etc...

****Learners should only have supplies that they can safely and neatly use. Parental supervision, for supplies such as glue and scissors, is highly recommended for learners that may want to use these supplies. ****

While pretend playing with our toys and creations, learners will take turns so that everyone gets to participate. Each learner can choose to make individual stories, continue a group storyline, and/or show-and-tell.

There are so many ways to create and play, which keeps creativity flowing and learners engaged.

Maybe we will:

-build a house with blocks for our stuffed animals.
-create pretend food with molding dough.
-make a magnetic tile train for our action figures.
-draw and color paper baby dolls

This class is learner directed and based on creativity so there is no weekly theme for this class.

Hello!

Welcome to my teaching profile! My name is Brittany Atkins.

I have been an early childhood educator for about 15 years, providing education and care as a nanny, nursery and pre-school teacher, ESL teacher, and babysitter.

I have a bachelor’s degree in human services (similar to social work and human development) with several credit hours in education and child development.

I’m a cat-mom to two Bengal cats and live in the countryside where I see lots of wild animals. My cats and the wild animals around me inspired me to study about animals. As an educator and animal lover, I now share my passion for animals with zoology classes on Outschool.

I’m a neurodivergent teacher, so I understand the importance of being patient, kind, understanding, and respectful towards all learners. Adults in charge of a learner's account are always welcome to message me about any questions or concerns.

My lessons naturally involve socialization because I teach about animals. Usually learners like to share their thoughts and opinions about the animals I teach about in class, talk about their pets, bring show-and-tell items, and mention the different types of animals they've seen.

I am not strict about a learner's involvement due to the needs, preferences, and backgrounds of every learner being different.

Learners are not forced to keep their videos on after check in, can choose only to listen into the class discussions, use the chat function, may use fidget gadgets, and learners do not have to ask for permission to be excused for a moment.

I do not believe that education should be "one way teaches all."

To protect and respect the privacy of learners, I will not share recordings. Please contact me to come up with other solutions if needed.
