The Imaginarium - A World of Pure Imagination (6-9)

The Imaginarium is a story creating class ... the children each create a character and then we create a story and bring them all to life. It's magical!

Class Experience

June 2023 update: After three incredible years hosting my classes on Outschool, it's time for new adventures and new ways of sharing my classes and content with the children of the world.

***** This class is a one-time class, but it can be repeated again and again, because it's completely different every time. The current record for attending the class is more than 40 times! I am always thrilled to see kids in The Imaginarium again! Also, I will always run this class, even if there is only one child enrolled. These one-to-one sessions are super fun for both me and the child enrolled. *****

In this class, the focus is on developing imagination, creativity and storytelling skills through character and story creation. The children will also learn collaboration and co-operation as we build our character and story by combining everyone's ideas.

Imagination is like a super power, it is the starting place for creating anything. The children will learn just what powerful creators they are when we build a character and a story entirely from our imaginations. The process is enormously fun, hugely interactive, and children never forget the important lessons they learn (or the characters they create) in this class.

We begin with a big blank sheet of paper, and I ask the children questions (Does our character have a body? What kind? What size? What shape? What colour?, Does our character have arms? How many? How and where are they attached to the body? Long or short? Straight or bendy? Fat or thin? etc) until we have created our character, and then, together, we create a story. Everyone is involved at every stage of the creative process. I also invite all the children to draw the character as we go along, and we share our pictures at the end. It's fascinating and wonderful to see all the amazing artistic interpretations.

We spend approximately 25 minutes creating our character, and 30 minutes creating our story.

I have delivered this workshop live in libraries, nurseries and schools in the UK, across the USA, Canada and The Netherlands and my style is relaxed, warm and funny. I have worked with children for almost 20 years and I love their imaginations and I work hard to make sure everyone feels their ideas are included. As an award winning story-teller, this is my most favourite kind of story time, and the kids adore it too!

Hi!
June 2023 update: After three incredible years hosting my classes on Outschool, it's time for new adventures and new ways of sharing my classes and content with the children of the world.
~~~~~~~
My name is Susie and I am delighted and incredibly proud to have been one of Outschool's Top Educators in 2022 with the most learners enrolled across the platform. I am profoundly grateful to all of the families who enrol their remarkable children in my classes and for the time that I get to spend with them. My two and a half years on Outschool have been an honour and a privilege and I am excited for an amazing 2023 for everyone.
 I have been an entrepreneur since I first started creating lemonade stands as a child. I love nothing more than turning ideas into things, adventures, songs, stories, poems and art! I have been very blessed to have some of the worlds biggest companies (Unilever, Philips, Ericsson, PepsiCo and Facebook to name a few) hire me to help them have fabulous ideas and turn them into real things.
More than ever, the world needs ideas, innovations and inventions! It needs the ideas, innovations and inventions of you and your children. Creativity is the Number #1 skill now wanted by business', and it is the Number #1 skill they say they will need in the future.
But sadly, it's estimated that as many as 80% of people never share their best idea!
It is my mission to help as many kids as possible, learn to value, use and explode their imagination and creativity. Every child has ideas that the world needs, important ideas. Ideas unique to them. Ideas that only they can ever, ever have.
I want kids to feel how powerful their imagination can make them - turning them into creators of gadgets, mods, apps, songs, stories, adventures, buildings, life saving devices, environment saving innovations, new recipes, movies, TV shows, symphonies!! Anything and everything.
Henry David Thoreau once said "I have always been regretting that I was not as wise as the day that I was born."  I believe that children are profoundly wise and brilliant and full of limitless potential. My teaching style reflects this. Children are my favourite kind of human beings, and where I have had the privilege to spend time with them - in libraries, schools, nurseries, or at the incredible Institute of Imagination in London - I always feel honoured by their presence, inspired by their genius, and delighted by their ideas and their hilarity.
My classes are full of fun, full of creativity and awash with imagination! There's also a dash of mischief and magic!
Outschool says I should tell you something fun about myself! So here's two things. I once lived without shoes for six months :-) as an experiment. (It was awesome!) and before I had my son, I travelled with my Teddy Bear, and he has his own passport.
If you're interested, here is a bit more about me ...
I am blessed to have travelled to more than 80 countries in the world. I've travelled in the Arctic and slept in the Ice Hotel. I've crossed the Atlantic Ocean twice and had iceberg ice in my soda. I've travelled in the Sahara Desert for weeks and seen a total eclipse of the sun from the top of a sand dune. I've stayed in a castle in India, walked the Great Wall of China, jumped off a bridge in New Zealand and out of a plane in Australia. And that's the short list!
I have travelled to 60 of these countries with my son. The two of us have had amazing and magical adventures together the world over, as we world schooled, and enjoyed life together. We have been so lucky to call Canada, the USA, France, The Netherlands and the UK home. He is now 19 and enjoying his own adventures at college. I am ridiculously proud of him, and it has been the privilege of my life to be his mom.
I am an award winning storyteller and have been telling stories and helping children create stories for nearly 20 years - in lots of different countries. I've even taught teachers how to help children create their own stories.
I feel like I have lived an extraordinary life, and given my son an extraordinary life too and I think that is because I live from a place of imagination and ideas and creativity. I agree with Einstein on most things, but especially that  "Imagination is more important than knowledge."
