Have you ever had trouble using quotes in a research paper? Has anyone ever said you have too many "dropped quotes"? Or are you just now starting your first research paper and want to learn how to use and cite quotes? This live class is a workshop that teaches students one method for incorporating textual evidence, such as quotes, into their paragraphs. It is perfect for students of all ages who would like to learn how to use research effectively! The class will introduce students to the ICE Method of writing. ICE stands for "Introduce, Cite, Explain Your Evidence" and is a method for writing with research. In class, students will learn what the term means and will practice writing their own paragraphs using this format. By the end of this class, students will be able to: - properly incorporate quotes into their own writing using signal verbs. - understand why citing is important and cite quoted sentences using MLA. - write concrete explanations to support their topic sentences. - write complete paragraphs using the ICE format. Bring your notebooks and pens, and let's get started!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I believe that communication and critical thinking are key to learning, and I aim to help my students not only to use these skills in the classroom but also to carry them outside the classroom into their everyday activities. Most of all, I enjoy teaching online classes and employing online tools to facilitate my students' learning.
Beyond teaching, my professional accomplishments include editing a professional journal that published an issue on creative nonfiction, poetry, photographs, and artwork by K-12 and college students and my volunteer work as a judge for a national creative writing contest for high school and college students. I have also written articles and web content on education-related topics.
My credentials include bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English. I have been working in education for about 20 years, teaching classes on literature, writing, and research.
In my spare time, I enjoy many activities, including cross stitching, reading, and spending time with my loved ones.
