The Hygge Book Club - February - High School

February's one-time Hygge book club (for High School students) will include discussion, analysis, and critique of Emily St. John Mandel's "Station Eleven."

Class experience

M.A. in English - Literature, with distinction - NAU - 2023
Please read the book BEFORE the group meets!
You will need a copy of "Station Eleven," by Emily St. John Mandel. You can use any edition that's handy at your local library, bookstore, or perhaps already in your home! (Note that it will be filed under "M" for Mandel, not "S" for St. John.)
Station Eleven is a post-apocalyptic novel that is best for mature readers aged 14 and up. It includes physical violence, gun violence, a cult, a pandemic, mentions of rape, and death.

Although more sensitive readers might want to skip this one, I want to add that the novel is not hopeless - ultimately, it's trying to make the case that art is necessary and vital to humanity.

As always, I encourage you to review the book first to make sure it is a good fit for your teen!
