Homework
Students read the books outside of class. They can read them all before the class starts or read each book ahead of the designated class. The books can be found at most major retailers, independent bookstores and libraries.

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Through guided discussion, students engage with the text and themes of The Hunger Games trilogy and its prequel. They explore concepts like appearances, social class, survival, rebellion, teamwork, resilience and more. They also examine each character's role in Panem. As we dig into how this futuristic society operates, we compare it to our own. They also examine the role of media and its power in the book as well as in real life.
The course happens over three weeks, one session for each book. 

Week One: The Hunger Games topics include: 
Panem society vs our society
role of the games
characters' strengths and roles in and outside the games

Week Two: Catching Fire
projection vs reality: the real Katniss Everdeen
social media role 
importance of the people in society

Week Three: Mockingjay
change in society 
role and effects of rebellion
team cooperation: how to build an effective team 
Katniss as a leader

Week Four: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
individual power in society
long term effects of choices
Snow's development as leader
