In this class we will read through the book "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. This is an exciting and engaging book that even reluctant readers will look forward to reading! This class is open to students who have never read the book and students who may have read the book previously but would like to re-read it in a book club setting. Students will complete the reading ahead of time and then we will meet together to discuss the book. Through our class discussions we will work on: ...
Students will engage in book group discussions each week. Through these discussions we will work on comprehension skills, analyzing the characters and their actions, making connections, discussing the author's purpose for including different events and characters in the book, and comparing and contrasting different characters and events.
I am a licensed school librarian with a love of dystopian young adult books! I have lead book groups and discussions with students across a wide variety of age groups.
Students are expected to have the reading complete before each class period. There will be 4 or 5 chapters for the students to finish reading before each class. See the class description for a breakdown of the chapters to be read for each class. Please have chapters 1-4 of "The Hunger Games" read before our first class meeting.
A copy of the book "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. This can be a physical or a digital copy of the book. Listening to the audio-book version is also fine!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
This book does contain violence and mature content. If you are unsure if the content of the book will be suitable for your child please read the book yourself before enrolling the child in this class.
