In this class we will read through the book "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. This is an exciting and engaging book that even reluctant readers will look forward to reading! This class is open to students who have never read the book and students who may have read the book previously but would like to re-read it in a book club setting. Students will complete the reading ahead of time and then we will meet together to discuss the book. Through our class discussions we will work on: -comprehension skills -analyzing the characters and their actions -making connections -discussing the author's purpose for including different events and characters in the book -comparing and contrasting different characters and events The teacher will use discussion questions to guide student conversations and discussions. Students are encouraged to jot down any questions or thoughts they have while reading to share with the class. Students will be encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings from the readings each session. We will meet twice a week for three weeks. "The Hunger Games" is divided into three sections and we will read one section each week. This will end up being 4 or 5 chapters between each class period. Please have the first 4 chapters read before the first class meeting. These chapters will be discussed in each class. Please have the chapters read before class. Class 1- Chapters 1-4 Class 2- Chapters 5-9 Class 3- Chapters 10-14 Class 4- Chapters 15-18 Class 5- Chapters 19-23 Class 6- Chapters 24-27
Learning Goals
Students will work on comprehension, analyzing the characters and their actions, making connections, discussing the author's purpose for including different events and characters in the book, and comparing and contrasting different characters and events.

This book does contain violence and mature content. If you are unsure if the content of the book will be suitable for your child please read the book yourself before enrolling the child in this class.
Supply List
A copy of the book "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. This can be a physical or a digital copy of the book. Listening to the audio-book version is also fine!
