In this multi-day course, we will read and discuss the four books in the Hunger Games series while analyzing the characters, events, and parallels within the four book series while following the lives of main characters Katniss and Peeta.

Join us as we discuss and analyze the four-book series of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. We will follow the lives of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark as they fight for their freedom, justice, and love. During this 4-week course we will gain a deeper understanding of each novel by discussing and analyzing the different characters (specifically Katniss and Peeta), the events that transpire within each book, and the games that will determine their fate. I have been fostering a love of reading since I could read. I love discussing different novels, genres, and diving further into a book than just reading what is on the surface. I find that once analyzing the different themes and symbolism within a novel it helps us understand the characters and story line on a much deeper level. I have led small book clubs for over 5 years and have a passion for reading.
Students will need to bring a copy of the book of the week with them to class (e-books are also acceptable copies to bring). - Week 1: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - Week 2: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins - Week 3: Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins - Week 4: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
As this series falls into the dystopian and sci-fi genres there are graphic scenes of violence as the characters are thrown into a live game where there can only be one survivor. The books would be described as PG-13 if compared to movies. The book series is similar to the Divergent series by Veronica Roth.
