Description
Class Experience
Ms. Annette worked in a world-renowned Reggio Emilia early childhood center in addition to her graduate studies in early childhood education. She has also worked with Lilian Katz in the early stages of her research on The Project Approach.
As part of the "flipped classroom" experience, families will be asked to help their learners with their part of the class project which they will create as a group. They will also be given ideas each week for exploring light, colors, shadows, and mirrors.
Each week: Paper, pencil, and crayons Week One: Please bring something (or a picture of something) that makes light. If possible, please take class near a sunny window, bright lamp, or other light source. Week Two: Sheer scarves or play silks, prisms, crystals, or plastic water bottles filled with colored water. Children should also bring paint to mix. Week Three: A blanket, a flashlight, black paper Week Four: A mirror and/or other reflective surface Additional supplies may be added depending on the course of our explorations and the children's ideas.
When the class is completed, Ms. Annette will present each family with a reflection that summarizes the class exploration and project as well as documenting how their individual learner participated in and contributed to the class. If parents have shared pictures, these will be included in the reflection as well. Each reflection will be shared only with the learner's family and will be personalized for each student.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
