Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Why is the heart so important? What is a liver? How do the lungs work? We will talk about all of that, while focusing on identifying the organs.

Learn the basics about the human body. We will be going through pictures on slides, and taking apart a model. We will also be reading pages from books about how the body parts work.

No prior knowledge is necessary. Can't read? No problem. We will be reading together.

DAY 1- IDENTIFYING ORGANS
We will be identifying organs and briefly learning what each organ does. I will be taking each organ out of a model (the one that is pictured in the class photo) and we will be looking at organs on slides.
Example- Here is a heart. It pumps blood through your body.
Students will be provided with worksheets to review during and after class.

DAY 2- HEART, BRAIN, LUNGS
I will take the heart, brain, and lungs out of our model, and go a little more in depth with their functions.
We will talk about how the heart pumps blood, how the brain controls the body, how we breath with our lungs, and more. We will look at slides and I will read a few pages from a book about how they work.
Students will be provided with worksheets to review during and after class.

DAY 3 - STOMACH, LIVER, ESOPHAGUS, INTESTINES, BLADDER, KIDNEYS
We will take a closer look at the organs in our digestive system.
We will talk about how food travels through our bodies, and what each organ does to help.
I will take the organs out of the model, and talk about them with slides and books (same as week 2)
Students will be provided with worksheets to review during and after class.

DAY 4- REVIEW (& Touching on Bones and Muscles)-
During this week, we will review each organ and it's basic function.
We will also talk briefly about muscles and the skeleton.
Students will be provided with worksheets to review during and after class.

Worksheets, printable review sheets, and pages from class are available to print with purchase of class. The student doesn't need these for class, but they are encouraged to use them.

This is a fun and upbeat class, with a small class size. We will move back and forth from pictures to books to the model, to keep the attention of the kiddos.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I've always loved learning about organs, especially the brain and the heart. My mom went to nursing school when I was young, and I just loved to look through her books. The human anatomy unit has been one of my favorite units to teach since I started teaching.
