In this flex class, students will cover the human body and its basic needs, including the 5 main systems the body has (digestive, respiratory, circulatory, nervous, skeletal).
Class experience
US Grade 3 - 5
In this class, students will review the human body and five of the main systems. This class will run 6 weeks to allow for deep and rich discussions of each system, and review each body system. Week 1- The human body and its main job (life) and basic needs for healthy body in the digestive system (food, water, air) Week 2- The skeletal system (major bones and muscles in the body and its role) Week 3- The nervous system (the nerves of the body and what they help the body do and the brain's...
Students will be able to understand 5 major body systems and their functions within the body. Students will be able to identify the systems and their jobs to make the body function.
I am a elementary and middle school science teacher having taught elementary science for 2 years, and have taught middle school science for 8 years from 6-8th grade. I am licensed as a science teacher from 6-12 grade, with a Masters in Science Education. I like making learning relate to real world experiences so students can connect to material easier than standard memorization. I review in a flow pattern that starts with basic information and expands into complex information to assist students with retention.
Homework Offered
Students will receive weekly activities for learning extension, as well as access to quizizz review games and breakoutedu.com review games (not to be confused with Zoom breakout rooms).0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will receive an assessment at the end of the course to assess mastery of the content instructed.Grades Offered
Students will be provided a note taker sheet each week to fill in through our lesson with a diagram to fill in. Students will also need access to quizizz and breakoutedu.com to play review games each week. The link for the games will be provided during each lesson as each quiz generates a new code each time.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Material covered will discuss the human body. While the reproductive system is important, that will not be discussed in this course as we will focus on the main systems and their functions in this class.
Students will be provided note takers created by instructor, as well as access to Super Science Magazine through the teacher and publication rights. Students will gain reading passages and materials created by instructor as well to supplement for learning extensions. Use of kahoot.com and breakoutedu.com will be used for class content practice through games.
