If Hanukkah isn't the "Jewish Christmas", what is it? Come find out! (Please note the separate classes for ages 6-8 and 12-15) Taught by a teacher with an MA in Jewish Studies, this class introduces students to the eight day festival of Hanukah! I will share the story of Judah and the Maccabees and the origins of Hanukkah. I'll also reach about the tradition of lighting a Hanukkah menorah! We'll discuss the traditional foods of Hanukkah, how people in different parts of the world celebrate Hanukkah, and why Hanukkah is considered a minor Jewish holiday. Students will also learn the a Hanukkah song, and will have the chance to sing it (time permitting). We will also touch upon what a dreidel/the dreidel game, though this topic is covered in more depth in a separate class . This interactive and inclusive class is open to all students. No prior knowledge is required. Although this class will primarily focus on how this holiday is celebrated in the United States in the Ashkenzi tradition, the class will also touch upon the Sephardic and Mizrahi traditions . After completing this class, students will understand the holiday of Hanukkah, and will have some knowledge about how families around the world celebrate this festival! **In order to facilitate discussion, this class will work best if students keep their screens on.**
