If your learner enjoyed the film Moana and wants to learn more about Polynesian history, this is the class for them. In this class, we will explore the real history of Polynesian islands. We will look at different countries that make up the Polynesian islands and discuss how indigenous cultures from Polynesia have similar traditions. We will discuss Polynesian boats, particularly looking at Outrigger canoes and larger boats. We will also learn how people used the stars to navigate. We will...
Students will: learn about Polynesian navigation, learn about Polynesian sailing, learn about the story of Maui.
I am a qualified teacher and have a PhD in history. I have taught history to learners from aged 3 up to the postgraduate level.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This class has been created using research from a number of sources, including The Polynesian Society, images from Polynesian culture and Scholarship from Anthropology departments at universities in New Zealand and Hawaii. Oral traditions and stories have been researched from indigenous sources
