We will discuss the origins and evolution of the art form up to the present moment, looking at its key players, methods and styles, and examine the dominate debates, themes and ideas. I will frame street art as giving a voice to the voiceless as an expression of the most basic human desires to stake a claim, to prove the maker's existence, to create, craft, document and stylize, and most simply: to connect with other people. There will be a lecture and slide show as we go through the evolution from basic "tags" to the complex, and beautiful, street art found around the world today, as well as, discussion on what makes something "art".
