Class Experience

Mardi Gras is a huge celebration that takes place in New Orlean's every year. It is often associated with parades, vibrant colors and lots of food! It is even a state holiday for the people of Louisiana! In this class we are going to dive into where Mardi Gras came from and how certain traditions were established around this holiday. We will also explore some more fun topics such as:

What is King Cake?
Why is Mardi Gras represented with purple, gold and green?
Why is Mardi Gras always held 47 days before Easter?
How are pancakes associated to this celebration?
How did Rome, France and Canada all have a role in the origins of Mardi Gras?
What does Mardi Gras even mean?
Why are masks and beads so popular during this event?

Learn all of this and more during our History of Mardi Gras class!

*Please take a look at the Parental Guidance section of this class to see how I will be dealing with some of the more mature and darker parts of the history this holiday has.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Please note that while this class will be kept fun and light there are certain topics that will be briefly mentioned that might not be for every learner. As this is only a 30 min class there would not be time to touch on every topic at length as there might be in longer classes. This class will be kept age appropriate so we will not touch on the adult traditions of this celebration. We will briefly mention the Mardi Gras Indians during class. However, there is a deep and storied history that they have so we will not be going into detail about this. Any other details older students may talk to their grown ups about. I would be happy to provide some more reading material for parents to give to students on that topic if you wish. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
