"The History of How We Got Here" series is a collection of one-time classes focused on less "popular" events in history that have had far more of an impact on our current lives than history textbooks or conventional wisdom might suggest. While the United States' involvement in Vietnam is certainly not an "unpopular" historical period, most Americans are not as familiar with the Vietnamese perspective; what people of that nation call "The American War." Students will gain a basic understanding of how "The American War" is viewed from the Vietnamese perspective, how it differs from the American perspective, and the conflict's significance in world history up to and including the current day.
I have a degree in history, have visited and spoken to Vietnamese and American veterans of the war, and have over a decade of experience teaching and discussing sensitive intercultural topics with diverse student groups.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
