US Grade 4 - 7
This one-time class will trace the origins of this autumn celebration from the pagan festival of Samhaim, through mumming (folk plays), souling (the origins of trick-a-treating), guising (disguising, or dressing up), fortune-telling and carving jack o'lanterns. We will also find out how Hallowe'en is celebrated in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales by looking at individual traditions from each of the four countries. There should be time for one or two scary British folktales told around Hallowe'en as well. My classes are friendly and relaxed, with plenty of time for learners to add their thoughts and comments as we go along. I would also love to find out if they plan to celebrate Hallowe'en this year too! I aim to be inclusive; if your learner has additional needs, please do let me know - I will do my best to adapt my class and teaching so they can enjoy it too. If you would like this class scheduled at a different time, just get in touch; I may be able to help.
