You've heard of the Hero's Journey, but the Heroine's Journey also exists. Similar, but also quite a bit different. In this short English literature seminar, we will examine that journey, & what makes it unique. #academic

Class experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Students will learn about the Heroine's Journey and how it is different from the Hero's Journey. Students will be able to identify, differentiate, and explain the elements that define the Heroine's Journey in books, film, and pop culture.
I am a certified AP English teacher with experience at all levels, from primary to high school. I have been teaching high school and middle school English for over 15 years in both the US, and I spent the last three years teaching in China. I am a former forensics competitor and served as a coach for over 20 years. I have an extensive background in theater as an actor, director, playwright, producer, and teacher.
Homework Offered
Students will watch two films and be prepared to discuss them. Student will read one short novel of their choice that employs a female protagonist (suggestions will be provided, but students are not limited to this list, and may even choose a novel that they have read previously). Based on the novel of their choice, students will present a brief analysis of the novel and explain whether the heroine follows the Heroine's Journey or the Hero's Journey.

Profile
"I am not the teacher that you are looking for," as I wave my hand ever so slightly.

I will not fill your students with rainbows and sunshine. I am not super high tech in the computer age. I don't offer fluff and I have no gimmicks. No puppies,...
