The Heart Word Method - Level 1: Sight Words Through Orthographic Mapping

In this class, students will master how to read irregularly and regularly spelled sight words (high frequency words) using their decoding skills rather than memorizing whole words. The heart word method is based on the science of reading, which helps students map words in their brain similar to how they map decodable words. Each week, learners will review previously taught words, and they will learn 4 new sight words by identifying the sounds they can decode and learning the parts of the word that do not follow spelling rules. At the end of each class, students will have heart word cards that they can use to practice their heart words at home. This approach is perfect for all students, especially those who struggle with memorizing whole words and early readers who are unsure of how to approach irregular high frequency words.
