Class Experience

In this weekly journal club, students will come together as a group and express themselves through writing & journaling. We will focus on topics that will help students work on self-awareness, and self-management while also promoting a foundation in social-emotional skills such as social skills, relationship skills, responsible decision making, and more!

The focus of the class is for learners to gain confidence in expressing themselves. The focus is not on English language writing skills, but the focus is purely on self-expression (we will not work on writing techniques- students will express their ideas in whichever way they find most fitting). Students will be encouraged to write/ draw the thoughts they have instead of keeping them in their minds.

Each week, we will focus on a different theme within the SEL skills for the journal entries and the material will be presented through discussion, games, and reading exercises to get creative juices flowing. The class is designed to aid students in developing a growth mindset, focus on their strengths, cultivate gratitude, and much more all of which will help promote social-emotional skills. Each journal prompt will help your learner reflect on the positive parts of their days and learn tools to help them navigate through conflicts. Students will leave the class with a positive mindset and attitude!

As the teacher, I will facilitate the discussion and ensure all students are heard and respected. I will support the students in their personal growth and I am very excited to be a part of the journey!

*Students will share their ideas throughout class (only if they feel comfortable!)*
