Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
In this class, we will read the funny story "The Great Thanksgiving Escape" by Mark Fearing. It's another Thanksgiving at Grandma's. Gavin expects a long day of boredom, but his cousin Rhonda has a different idea. She wants to make a break for it, out of the kids' room to the swing set in the backyard! Will they manage to avoid the obstacles and find some fun before turkey time? Or will they be captured before they've had a taste of freedom? After the story, we will play an interactive game that asks questions about the story. Finally, the students will get a chance to draw their own Thanksgiving Escape plan, just in case!
Learning Goals
Students will be able to ask and answer questions about the story. They will also be able to draw upon their own experiences to make a Thanksgiving Escape Plan.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Teacher Shannon! I have taught 2nd grade for 24 years. I've taught both Gifted and Regular Education. I was a substitute teacher for 2 years working with Early Childhood students as well as older elementary students. My passion is reading! I love Children's Literature and I have even co-taught college level students on "What's New In Children's LIterature?" for the last 10 years. What drives me as a teacher is to have a fun, safe, interactive classroom while embracing lots of quality literature. I want kids to love reading as much as I do and to have fun learning! And maybe make a craft or two along the way!
