2021 is the Year of the Ox! But, how was an Ox chosen to represent this year? It all started with a legend from many many years ago when the Jade Emperor issued a challenge to all the animals of the world. The prize would be a place of honor in a system he was creating and the challenge issued would be a great race. In this lesson, students will learn about The Great Race which is the story of how it was decided which animals would be included in the Chinese Zodiac calendar. This lesson will be a fun story format where students will have the opportunity to interact with each other as we discover together the outcome of The Great Race!

Teacher expertise and credentials
My love for Chinese culture led me to a full year of studying Mandarin and working abroad in China. I had the opportunity to travel throughout most of China, visiting bigger cities, living in rural ones, and making lots of new friends who taught me traditions and stories. I taught English at a university abroad in both Chongqing and Wuhan, China in regions that very few people spoke English. Since then I have been teaching Chinese students aging from 3-18 years old online for the past 3+ years. We frequently discuss topics related to their culture, heritage, traditions, legends, and holidays. I also have obtained TESOL/TEFL certification for both teaching in-person lessons and online.
