This flex class is the practical and memorable route to becoming a competent grocery shopper, an important step towards adulting, by learning how to navigate the supermarket and come out with food and groceries that fit your needs and budget.
Class experience
The ability to navigate a grocery store, come out with precisely what you need, and stay within a budget is a skill set foreign to many adults. While it’s not always on the radar as a crucial learning experience, it’s directly linked to both managing finances and preparing meals, and it’s just as vital. This 4-week flex course is a hilarious, practical, and memorable route to becoming a competent shopper. We will develop budgets, menus, and lists relative to various grocery shopping needs. ...
Students will learn to create and successfully use grocery budgets, menus, and lists. They'll learn how to navigate supermarkets and avoid shopping pitfalls that encourage overspending and poor purchases. They'll also learn to use online grocery shopping, grocery apps, and alternative food purchasing options.
As a community health educator, I have been teaching families how to shop smart on a budget for nearly a decade. I love turning typically mundane activities into opportunities for fun and learning.
Handouts and videos will be provided with the course. Students will be encouraged to explore several free grocery shopping/list apps and/or websites. They will also be encouraged to research their local grocery store websites and apps.
