Class Experience
Create a fictitious, yet award-winning cookie! Serve up a no-bake rainbow pie made with ROYGBIV. And try your hand at icing a competitive cake using acrostic poetry in either its simple or longer form. Junior Poets and baking enthusiasts will explore the traditional poetic structure, meter (if any) and rhyme schemes associated with the poetic form. This class is taught in English.
Academic subjects supported: English language, writing composition, public speaking, math/counting, artistic expression, theatre/acting skills.
The instructor has been teaching English language and writing composition for six years, in addition to working in childrens' and professional theatre. She is a practicing songwriter and award-winning novelist. She holds a Master's in Organizational Leadership from Grand Canyon University, specializing in the promotion of effective teamwork and expansion of human potential. Previous students have successfully published their own works in addition to winning creative writing contests for youth.
There is no homework outside of class time, though it is possible that slower writers may need extra time after class to finish their composition. Students are always welcome to post their final poem on the class discussion board for teacher or peer feedback if they choose not to present live.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No formal grades are provided on this activity.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
The students will view a brief clip from a baking competition show for inspiration prior to beginning their activity. Parents are welcome to request a preview of this material upon enrollment. Class Rules: Enrolled Students Only. Cameras On (unless the teacher approves a parent’s request). Microphones Muted (if there is background noise). No Foul, Hurtful or Offensive Language or Gestures Allowed. Please contact the teacher in advance if there are any issues that might interfere with reading, writing, speaking or attending to the lesson. We can work together to accommodate the student’s varied learning styles and differences.
