Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Skills practiced/learned
     - Identify literary elements from the novel 
     - Define elements of the gothic genre and learn the history of the Gothic era
     - Use symbolism to show the significance of names
     - Identify symbolism of colors
     - Analyze mythological allusions
     - Identify foreshadowing and cliffhangers
     - Examine fear and human instincts
     - Practice writing skills and strategies (text evidence, thesis statements, hooks, etc.)
     - Identify and define the theme and its importance in novels
     - Examine how ethical dilemmas exist in our society
     - Write an essay with instructor feedback (optional)
English Teacher both online and in a public B&M school.
About 75 pages of reading per week. Optional Essay
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Vocab quizzes and weekly comprehension quizzes in class 
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
The novel begins on a scene of murder and violence. The novel also discusses elements of the gothic genres. Topics and discussions are kept at an appropriate level. I have experience teaching grades 5-12. This book club will be kept at an age-appropriate level.

Google forms and quizlet will be used for quick quizzes and vocab words. The link will be shared during class. No accounts are needed. Students will not have to release any information other than their first name.
