Class Experience

In this flexible schedule course, students will dive into the world of science fiction and utopian literature. by looking at Lois Lowry's book The Giver. Jonas is a young boy who lives in the "perfect society." There's no crime, no discrimination, no poverty! What more could they want? However, freedom is a thing of the past. Everyone has a role that they are to fulfill in society, and everyone's life is planned for them. Jonas starts to wonder if things aren't quite as perfect as they seem....

No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.

This book is utopian literature and contains some mature themes.  Nobody has children on their own  anymore and the people are given medication to keep them from any sexual attraction. Also, this society is all about “usefulness” so the elderly or weak babies are “gotten rid of”. This book also has some violence.
