Not only is reading an essential life skill, but it can be a source of entertainment. In this course, students dive into this futuristic book! Through completing class activities, students will practice reading comprehension skills, identifying plot events, describing characters, determining problems, defining vocabulary words, and recognizing themes in books. Students will be given reading comprehension questions and vocabulary to complete while reading. During each class session *We will review reading comprehension questions, vocabulary, main plot points, characters, and discuss important quotes/themes/concepts from the reading. *Students will also play Blooket based on the assigned chapters.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their reading comprehension skills by answering questions and participating in discussions.
Students will gain knowledge of new vocabulary words by completing a graphic organizer and participating in discussions.

A copy of The Giver by Lois Lowry. This book can be found at the library, local bookstore or online. A pen/pencil The instructor will be supplying background information videos, reading comprehension questions, and vocabulary graphic organizers.
