This course is a small- medium-sized class intended for children 7-11 years old interested in learning more about octopuses, marine animals, and the ocean. This class is 50 minutes long, and in this class, we will discover the incredible world of the eight-legged genius, the octopus. Together we will discuss the essential facts about octopus and their habitat. Students will learn the octopus’ life cycle, where they call home, and some unusual human-like behavior characteristics. Students will also learn what it means to be a steward of our planet by knowing what it takes to protect the ocean and its inhabitants. Students will learn three things that they can do to help the environment. This class is in a comfortable classroom setting. I will use different media and technology to bring the materials to life. This class is interactive, and students are encouraged to speak and discuss topics throughout the course (as time allows). Class time will involve lecture time, slides, video clips, and ongoing discussion throughout the class. In the last 10 minutes of class, I lead students in drawing their own octopus; with step-by-step instructions. Students are encouraged to bring any sea animal doll or plushy to the class for sharing.
