Beginner Level
This is an ongoing Book Club where we discuss books 11-15 books of the Junie B. Jones series. Even though discussion prompts are given, this social club will be mostly student-led. Each week, students should come to our club meeting time having read Junie B. Jones's book being discussed that week. Students will also be given a Welcome prompt each week to share at the beginning of class. We will also play Kahoot! and solve fun puzzles created with Google Slides. Week 1: Welcome Prompt: What is your favorite Junie B. Jones book, so far? Junie B. Jones Is a Beauty Shop Guy (Book 11) Play a Kahoot! Game using Junie B. Jones's book of the week. Week 2 Welcome Prompt: Junie B. Jones loved jokes. Bring a clean, age-appropriate joke to share in the club. Junie B. Jones Smells Something Fishy (Book 12) Play a Kahoot game using Junie B. Jones's book of the week. Week 3 Welcome Prompt: Junie B. Jones loved jokes. Bring a clean, age-appropriate joke to share in the club. Junie B. Jones Is (almost) a Flower Girl (Book 13) Play a Kahoot! Game using Junie B. Jones's book of the week. Week 4 Welcome Prompt: Create a Valentine for Junie B. Jones Junie B. Jones and the Mushy Gushy Valentine (Book 14) Play a Kahoot! Game using Junie B. Jones's book of the week. Week 5 September 14 Welcome Prompt: Brainstorm animals found on the farm, Junie B. Jones visits. Sing "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," using animals from our brainstorm. Junie B. Jones Has a Peep in Her Pocket (Book 15) Play a Kahoot! game using Junie B. Jones's book of the week. As a teacher, I strive to create an environment where all club members feel welcomed and are given opportunities to talk and share, with many smiles and laughs along the way. We will start the class with an engaging “Welcome” prompt and then begin discussing the book for the week. Students will be encouraged through the club to think about their reading. Connections will be made through text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world. This strategy promotes engagement while reading and, in turn, a deeper understanding of the text.
