Class Experience

The Friendly Neighborhood Game Master Club is a social club and learning community for students who love roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons, Traveller, Runquest, Star Wars and Call of Cthulhu. I am Raul the club's resident game master and with over 30 years of experience, I'm excited to guide and support you on your journey as a game master.

In this class, we'll explore all aspects of game mastering, from world-building to character creation to combat mechanics. We'll dive into the art of storytelling and learn how to craft compelling narratives that engage and entertain players.

Each week, we'll have interactive discussions and hands-on activities to help you develop your skills as a game master. You'll have the opportunity to share your own ideas and creations with the group, as well as receive feedback and support from your peers.

Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced game master looking to refine your skills, this class is for you. All nerds, neurodivergent and LQBTQ+ individuals welcome.

Our class is led by the students. At the beginning of each class we will select a subject of discussion, and we will go on a deep dive of the selected subject. Students are encouraged to engage in the discussion and socialize with their peers.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I started gaming when I was 10 years old and instantly fell in love with it. It gave me a creative outlet and a playground to learn about the world and important issues like history, social justice, team work and problem solving.

Over the last 30 years, I have run thousands of games and have even had the joy of teaching my own 3 kids the art of role playing (Ages 14, 11 and 7).

I look forward to speaking with you soon and adventuring with you!

My Character Sheet:
•Highly skilled in creating and advancing a games story while keeping forward momentum in the group.
•Experienced in creating challenges for players that stretch both their skills and imagination.
•Level 20 Sorcerer when it comes to improvisation. After 35 years of running games, I can handle just about anything that the party can throw at me.
•+10 to organization skills. Player forgot their character sheet? New player shows up mid game? I have you covered.
•+10 to charisma. I speak fluent nerd and understand that joining a new group can be intimidating so I go out of my way to make everyone feel welcome. I am proficient at teaching new players how to play pen and paper role playing games.
•Level 20 Bard (with an epic boon). You will be hard pressed to find a more professional story-teller, verse maker, music composer or oral historian. I love to weave music and props into my story to immerse the player in interactive game play.
•Multi-tasker. I am able to run multiple NPC’s and story lines seamlessly weaving them into the story without breaking character or focus.
•Game Master mentoring available. Looking to offer something unique to your friends? I have experience teaching others how to be dungeon or game masters.
•Great with kids. I love introducing kids to the hobby and have experience working with ages 5-18, including those with learning challenges.
