Class Experience

Learners will be introduced to basic art techniques, which are building blocks that provide a solid foundation for future art lovers and artists. Children will explore the great world of arts and crafts and drawing.  This unique learning experience places an emphasis on having fun while exploring creativity. Students in this class will learn the basics of drawing cartoons, superheroes, landscapes, and other objects. Learners will complete drawings using colored pencils, markers, and graphite. 

Arts and craft activities give learners a sense of accomplishment and allows them to build their confidence in creating a variety of projects using different materials. Making art is a great and safe way to discover. Children have a wonderful imagination that will increase their skill set: motor skills critical skills, academic performance, literacy skills, awareness, and creativity. Arts and crafts is an integral tool in the development of children that fosters their curiosity and creativity.  It gives them an outlet to express themselves. We will learn basic crafting skills such as: sewing, clay, painting, beading, jewelry making, clay and so much more.

As an educator for over 25 years, I have taught various courses and grade levels. My experience spans from elementary to collegiate levels. Also, I have a B.A. degree in education and two master degrees in library science and educational theory and practice. In 2010, I completed my doctorate in educational leadership. 

I enjoy art and being creative. Creativity enhances our minds, and it needs to be nurtured in every child. I have had sewing, crochet, and music classes. Since childhood, I have been drawing and completing various arts and crafts' projects.  
The Flying Art Classroom Learners will need the following supplies: yarn beads glue scissors crayons markers colored pencils construction paper drawing paper chalk graphite watercolors (paint) paintbrushes plastic container of water to rinse brushes paper towel glitter Q-tips tissue paper pencils erasers ruler sketchbook thread paper plates watercolor paper pad needle fabric socks eyes (glue on) tape toilet paper rolls clear tape masking tape protective gear (goggles, if needed) neon letter beads small picture frame rubber stencils and/or sponges (to make shapes and animals)
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
