Description
Class Experience
Students will improve their reading comprehension, vocabulary, figurative language, and writing practice while having a blast reading an awesome book with a ton of mentally stimulating activities.
While this novel does have several sensitive topics such as substances and violence, the literary quality is amazing. In class, we will not be discussing substances in a deep dive; however, questions during classroom discussion may come up. I will address them, but my personal standard is from a no substance use/abuse and non-violent society point of view.
Homework will be optional. However, if students submit all of their quizzes, I will create a certificate for them. Homework will greatly advance their learning and help make connections to the real world. That's the beauty of this system. You can enjoy a fantasy book but, still learn while you go.
Students will need a copy of the book. There are websites we will use: vocabulary.com (please create a student account before class - it's free), quiz.org (I will provide a class code, so students and parents can see the quiz results), and Kahoot will be used as well. Printing out the weekly curriculum is highly encouraged. However, it is not required.
There will be a percentage average for each quiz and written assignment. Rubrics will be provided for writing options.
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Violence and Fighting: This is an epic quest, so there is a great deal of fighting. Substances: Alcohol, drugs, and other substances
