This is an introductory course to logic and part of a Classical Education. Sometimes it's easiest to teach things by using the opposite approach, in this case teaching fallacies. Fallacies, or errors in logic, are used every day in all types of situations. Everyone has committed a fallacy before. For example, this class is great. Why? No one has ever told me it wasn't. (Proof by Lack of Evidence Fallacy - which isn't really proof at all). First, we will learn why it is important to stretch and exercise your mind on a daily basis. Different interactive scenarios and tasks will be completed together to exercise your mind, practice active listening, and help to learn to listen to opposing viewpoints. Next we will go into the three most common fallacies: avoiding the question, making assumptions, and statistical fallacies. These fallacies will be explained and we will complete activities to help spot these fallacies over the next three lessons. Class 1: Exercise Your Mind, Active Listening, and Opposing Viewpoints Class 2: Avoiding the Question Fallacies Class 3: Making Assumption Fallacies Class 4: Statistical Fallacies So everyone should take this class! If not you must be completely against logical reasoning and perfectly fine with fallacies. (Straw Man Fallacy - we'll go over it in class) :)
