Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Writing can be hard for many reasons, but one of the most common is not knowing what to write about, in this flex class, students will be prompted to write descriptive, personal narrative, imaginative narrative, persuasive, and expository paragraphs.

My summer 2023, section running from May 15 - August 11th has one break week built in. Your student will not receive a prompt the week of July 4th.
My fall 2023, section running from September 11 - December 16, has a two-week break built in. Your student will not receive prompts during the last two weeks of November.

One of the unique features of the class is my weekly video response to your student's written first drafts. When I receive your student's first draft, I will proofread the draft, marking any errors that need correcting and giving personalized tips on writing. Then I will create a quick explanation video. Using this method of video response and written Language Arts example, I'm able to communicate not only encouragement by pointing out the positives in your student's writing, but I'm also able to clearly explain what improvements need to be made to the final draft.

Saving my profile will allow you to receive updates on 4th and 5th-grade Language Arts class listings. I generally teach year-round, with classes beginning mid-September, mid-January, and mid-May. However, my mid-May courses will not meet during the summer of 2025. I'll see you in September!

Having taught for many years, I have learned the key to being a great educator is to, "Never Stop Learning!" To that end, I am always making exciting discoveries that allow me to improve my knowledge and skills in a variety of areas. Specifically, I am passionate about Literature, Public Speaking, and Life Skills and truly believe that knowledge in these areas is particularly important to achieving a full and happy life.

Through Outschool, my passion is to provide excellent Language Arts classes for 4th and 5th-grade students. This is the time in a student's education when they move from learning to read to reading to learn.
I have now listed three age-appropriate classes per grade level. These classes are designed to provide your student with a fun, educational, and exciting way to grasp the 4th and 5th-grade ELA Common Core expectations.
In the fall, your student may take either 4th—or 5th-grade ELA (Semester One) courses. In the spring (January), your student may take either 4th—or 5th-grade ELA (Semester Two) courses. In the summer, I'll be teaching my grade-specific eight-week Summer Reading and Writing Fun Courses.

Graduating with a degree in K-8 education and completing an emphasis in Reading and Math for all levels, I have had the privilege of teaching public, private, and homeschooled students in grades K-12. I have taught my three loves as listed above, and I have also enjoyed expanding my knowledge by teaching math, science, and history.

Learning should be an adventure worth taking and must include teacher and learner engaging together. As a teacher, I am also a learner, and as a learner, your students are also teachers. By engaging together as a classroom of teachers and learners, my classes will work for a variety of learning styles, including, but not limited to, visual, auditory, and tactile learning styles.

When I'm not teaching, I walk, read, sew, cook, watch baseball, and love my family.
