You may think about her 14 Grammy Awards (with 52 nominations) or the $1.04 billion Eras Tour with 4.35 million tickets sold across 60 tour dates. However, among her successes, many also still refer to her as the country crossover that sings only about her ex-lovers. Students will develop an appreciation and understanding for Swift as a creative music entrepreneur, as well as understand the politics of the music industry as they relate to her career.
I've followed Swift's career from the beginning when she was just a little thing in country music to how she's become a pop legend in her 30s. I hold a Master's in English and have been a teacher for over 15 years.
Homework Offered
Students will have weekly reading and listening requirements. The reading/listening should be completed before attending class.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

Students should have a basic level understanding of Taylor Swift and her career.
All materials (links to articles, Spotify playlist links, list of songs) will be provided before the first lesson.
Please review the syllabus for this course before enrolling. This course will discuss some heavier topics like fame, feminism, media hypocrisy, public narratives, media politics, and copyright. Some of the music examined in this course may have explicit language, especially toward the end when Swift matures.
We will read articles from various magazines (Rolling Stone, Cosmopolitan, Vulture, etc.). Music playlists will be available on Spotify for students to use but students will also have a list of the songs to listen to through whatever media player they prefer.
