The English Football League Pyramid
Unlike the NBA, NFL or the MLS, English soccer has hundreds of teams vying for their shot at the big time. Join me for this one time class and find out why 'relegation' can bring grown men to tears. Students will develop both conversation and social skills along the way. They'll also get to apply critical thinking as we discuss, 'What if the NFL had promotion and relegation?'

Yes, we all know Machester United, Liverpool etc.. but what about the rest? What goes on below the top teams and just why are promotion and relegation so important? Well, come join me, an English Football Association qualified coach and I'll help you navigate through the English football league pyramid. From the Premier League to League 2, after this discussion-based class, students will leave with a new level of understanding of how the tiered football league operates. Students will get the chance to rate and share their opinions of players and teams, analyze matches (who won, why?, how? etc.) and discuss the latest news and events from the English Premier League. They will also learn how to respect others' opinions, how to politely express themselves and build confidence along the way in a fun, yet structured social learning environment. Class breakdown: • Introductions - I'll introduce and tell a soccer fact about myself and then encourage students to do the same. • Let's talk soccer - A relaxed discussion about the current events in the world of soccer. • The English Football League - What is it? and how does it work? • The concept of promotion, play-offs and relegation • Career Mode - Students become a player at the start of their career and discuss how they can make it to the Premier League, • Goodbye my friends - A brief summary of the class and students will get the chance to ask any questions they might have. Students will have plenty of opportunities to share their input and listen to others.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, my name is Ross Hanson and I am a TEFL certified teacher, as well as a Football Association of Wales qualified coach. My goal in my lessons is to provide a fun and relaxed environment, where students can learn about what they enjoy while gaining important social skills along the way.
I hope to prompt students to think creatively and explore their natural curiosity. I want them to feel that no question is too silly to ask.
In my class, students will learn and understand terminology, tactics and how to analyze a match, while at the same time discussing all things soccer.
I also have over two years of experience teaching English as a foreign language and have found that students learn best when discussing something that they love.
Adding to the aforementioned two years of teaching, I have also coached youth soccer for three years, two years in the USA and one year in the UK.
I have a National Diploma in Sport, a Football Association of Wales C Certificate and a 120-hour TEFL Certificate.
I love sports and if I'm not watching or playing soccer, then you'll find me on a board either on snow or water depending on the season :)
My second love is to travel and I have been to thirty countries so far and counting...
I really enjoy meeting new people and hearing their stories, so feel free to ask me anything.
I look forward to seeing your child in my classroom soon :)
Bye for now, Ross
