Welcome to a magical summer adventure where words come to life! In this 3-day camp (Tuesday-Thursday), young writers will craft spells, mix word potions, and spin imaginative stories while building essential literacy skills through play and creativity. THEMES: Tuesday: Rhyming Spells We’ll explore the magic of rhyme as learners create funny spells and silly magic poems, building sound awareness and playful language skills. Wednesday: Silly Spelling Potions Using parts of real words and sounds, campers will brew up brand-new silly words, strengthening spelling skills while inventing wild word potions! Thursday: Magical Story Adventure Learners will use special “spell ingredients” to craft a magical mini story, building creativity, vocabulary, and storytelling confidence. CLASS STRUCTURE: Welcome & Warm-Up: A fun, magical greeting activity to spark creativity and build connection (ex: silly spell chants, quick word games). Lesson & Modeling: Introduce the day’s theme (rhyming spells, silly potions, magical storytelling) with short, interactive examples. Creative Word-Building Activity: Learners dive into hands-on creation — writing their own spells, mixing words for potions, or crafting magical mini-stories. Share & Celebrate: Learners are invited (but never required) to share parts of their spells, potions, or stories to celebrate creativity and build confidence. Wrap-Up & Preview: A magical closing and a sneak peek at the next day's adventure to keep excitement growing! TEACHING APPROACH I believe that literacy skills grow best when learners are fully engaged, imaginative, and having fun. In this camp, we blend creativity, play, and foundational literacy practice through hands-on activities like rhyming spells, word potions, and magical storytelling. I use an encouraging, interactive teaching style that supports each learner’s ideas while helping them develop phonics, vocabulary, and writing confidence. Every activity is designed to spark curiosity, inspire laughter, and build a strong foundation for lifelong reading and writing success.
