US Grade 3 - 5
Beginner - Intermediate Level
I like to call the elements of the periodic table the ingredients for everything that exists. Everything is built out of elements. But which elements? Why do different elements do different things? In this class, learners will study the specific elements needed by all living things. These elements are carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, and sulfur. Why are these elements found in every living thing, from humans to plants to bacteria? That's what we will find out in this class! Classes give learners a chance to practice their listening skills, write basic notes, and ask and answer questions about chemistry. I will present the lesson with a slideshow, and I will point out important information.
Learning Goals
Learners will understand that elements are the substances everything is made of.
Learners will know the six elements needed for all living things.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from St. Cloud State University
I have taught homeschool students for more than 22 years. While I have experience teaching all subject areas, I have specialized in math and science for the last 8 years. I've been teaching chemistry classes on Outschool since 2021. In that time I've developed strategies for teaching online, and I've tailored my classes to answer the general questions learners often have regarding chemistry. I keep up-do-date on advancements and discoveries in chemistry by reading science journals. I pride myself on working hard to make sure learners have an enjoyable learning experience and remember the valuable information taught in the class.
