Welcome to The Curious Kids Lab—where science meets creativity, curiosity, and fun! This class is designed for upper elementary learners (grades 4–6) who love to explore the "why" and "how" behind the world around them. Whether your learner is preparing for a science test or just wants to dive deeper into exciting topics, this class makes learning hands-on, engaging, and meaningful. What will be taught? We'll review key science concepts often covered in upper elementary grades, including: Scientific investigation and the scientific method Matter and energy Force and motion Weather and ecosystems Earth, space, and natural resources How is the class structured? Each session will focus on a specific science topic. We'll begin with a short, interactive review using slides or visuals, followed by a fun activity like a game, quiz, or simple experiment. We’ll wrap up with discussion and a challenge question to extend learning and spark curiosity. How will I teach? I use a combination of visuals, storytelling, student-led discussion, games, and interactive tools (like Kahoot or Jamboard) to make abstract science ideas come alive. I also include printable handouts or optional at-home extension activities. What’s my teaching style? I’m an energetic and supportive teacher who believes learning should be joyful and interactive. I create a safe space where all learners are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and learn at their own pace. How much will learners interact? Learners will have plenty of opportunities to engage through: Group discussions Polls and warm-ups Live games and challenges Sharing observations and predictions during experiments Asking and answering questions in real time Whether your child loves science already or needs a little boost of confidence, The Curious Kids Lab is here to make learning stick—and spark a lifelong love of discovery!
Learning Goals
Learners will strengthen their understanding of key science concepts—including scientific investigation, matter, energy, ecosystems, weather, and space—through interactive review, hands-on activities, and discussion.
They will build confidence in their science knowledge, develop critical thinking skills, and be better prepared for classroom learning and assessments.

Hi! I’m Ashley Peay, and I’m thrilled to guide your child through the exciting world of science in The Curious Kids Lab! As an experienced 5th-grade teacher, children's author, and passionate advocate for hands-on learning, I have spent years developing creative ways to engage children in science.
I have over 7 of experience teaching science to upper elementary students, specifically in grades 4–6. In addition to my classroom work, I’ve led small-group workshops, after-school enrichment programs, and science clubs, where I helped students explore concepts like energy, ecosystems, matter, and scientific investigation. I am dedicated to making science accessible, exciting, and most importantly—fun!
In my classroom, I always aim to meet students where they are, whether that’s helping them dive into a challenging topic, guiding them through a hands-on experiment, or giving them the space to ask as many "why" and "how" questions as they can dream up.
Additionally, as a mom to two kids, I have a deep understanding of the challenges and joys of learning at home. I know how to foster a positive, supportive environment where children feel comfortable engaging with the material at their own pace while developing confidence in their abilities.
I’m committed to making every student feel heard, valued, and excited to learn! I can’t wait to help your child explore science in a way that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning.
