In this 12-week class, learners will work collaboratively to choose a cookbook from which we will make a recipe together in class. Learners will also have the option to prepare a dish from each cookbook independently to "share" and discuss with the group. They will interact with each other or myself (ask questions etc.) by messaging in the classroom between meetings. Learners will choose from a variety of cookbooks that can be found using the e-book database Hoopla. Each week, I will...
As mentioned above, this class will be social in nature but with the following intended goals: - effectively communicate processes, ideas and opinions - expand palates and explore through food - acquire skills needed for preparing food independently
While there won't be any homework, learners are encouraged to peruse the selected cookbooks each week to vote on which they prefer to cook from. Additionally, they are welcome to make an additional dish from the selected cookbook to share with the group, though this is not required.
Contact your local library for free access to the Hoopla Digital app. (recommended)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
While many cooking skills can be taught through online instruction, parents/guardians are best to determine their child's comfort and skill in the kitchen. My goal is to build upon what they already know...safely. If you have any questions about whether your child's skill level is appropriate for a particular class, don't hesitate to reach out. *As you will be responsible for providing ingredients for this class, please be sure to check all food label ingredients for potential allergens.
We will be sourcing cookbooks that are readily available through the Hoopla Digital app (a streaming/E-book app available for free through most public libraries).
