Class Experience

Do you love listening to podcasts and have always wanted to start your own? Or do you have a podcast but want to take it to the next level? Whether you want to podcast as a hobby or turn it into your "side hustle," your voice matters. Now it's time to make it heard.

This week-long, 5-session class will take you step-by-step through the development, launch, promotion, and monetization of your amazing podcast. You will be given homework assignments to share during the next class for constructive feedback and encouragement.

Day 1:

* World of podcasts. Defining podcasts and the size of the medium, determining why you want to start one, why most podcasts fail — and how you can avoid being one of them.

* Planning. Narrowing down your audience; podcast format, length, and frequency; show name; and possible cohost(s).

Day 2:

* Preparation. Cover art, intro and outro, and music.

* Content. Selecting topics, inviting guests, and writing scripts or interview questions.

Day 3:

* Recording. Setting up your podcast "studio" (including gear), in-person (or solo) recording, and virtual/remote recording.

* Editing. The easy ways...and the hard(er) ways.

Day 4:

* Additional content. Show notes, transcriptions, and free PDFs.

* Launching. Website, hosting service, uploading your first episode(s), and submitting to podcast directories (like iTunes).

Day 5:

* Promotion. Social media, word-of-mouth, building an email list, and alerting journalists.

* Monetize. Sponsors, paid events...and book deals.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I became a podcast enthusiast with the launch of Serial in October 2014. This led me to start my own podcast in 2015. While my podcast started as a hobby, it's now become a worldwide phenomenon with more than 2 million downloads across 150 countries around the world.

I've monetized my podcast by pointing listeners to my coaching business, having show sponsors, and hosting paid virtual summits. Last, but certainly not least, I landed a book deal based on my show with a large traditional publisher. I want to share my knowledge about what's worked -- and what hasn't -- with future podcasters.
