1 live meeting
30 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
In this ongoing class, we will learn about the Greeks and Romans through games, stories and poems. In every lesson, we will learn a myth or aspect of life and some Classics vocabulary, either Greek and/or Latin. During the session, there will be an opportunity for show and tell related to Classics, and also a short writing or drawing task to support the story or words of the day. We will alternate one week with a focus on the world of the Romans and one week with a focus on the Greek world. I love to introduce Latin and Greek words here and there in a way that children can understand them by context, and some of my teaching (for example, counting down with my fingers) will be done in either Greek or Latin. ESL learners are welcome and they will be supported if needed. Previous knowledge is not necessary and students can meet at any point during the course. Here is an outline of upcoming sessions: Topics by week, listed by the date on Monday but applicable to the whole week: 10/10: The myth of the Cyclops 17/10: Let us play a Roman boardgame! 31/10: The big Greek mythology Kahoot 07/11: The foundation of Rome
Learning Goals
Students will become familiar with the language and culture of the Greeks and Romans. By being exposed to new words and starting to using them, they will improve their reading, expression, self-confidence and linguistic awareness.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Some children might find some of the characters in the myths scary (e.g. monsters), and the behaviour displayed in the story is in line with classical myths rather than contemporary attitudes.
Supply List
I may send ahead some activities to print out or materials that can be found around the home to source.
