In this one time course students will learn about how to care for a Sulcata tortoise as a pet. We will talk about the difference in care needs between a hatchling an an adult Sulcata. Student will learn basic are needs such as temperature, humidity levels, soaking, feeding and general habitat needs. They will also learn how to use a great food app that helps you determine what foods are safe and what are not safe to feed. This app can also be used on the web without a download. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions that pertain to their own situation. Students will get to meet at least one of my rescued Sulcata tortoises. Throughout the course I will show some videos, and photos of sulcata tortoises. I will also screen share and show the students how to use the food app website and how to understand how it works.

Parental Guidance
Students will be shown a few photos of what can happen to a Sulcata if they are neglected. These photos are not gruesome in any way. The photos will show how a shell can become disfigured without proper UV lights, ect. We may also talk briefly about my tortoises and my friends tortoise rescue story. This can be sad to some children, but does have a very happy ending. A brief summary of the stories:
One of mine was left abandoned in someone's yard in the fall, she would not have survived an Idaho winter on her own.
My friend's rescue spent almost 20 years living in a box with no light, attention or water. His shell is severely disfigured (one of the photos that will be shown) and he has had to have some surgeries due to this neglect.
I share these stories to help emphasize the importance of care. I do not focus on the stories, but do mention them and their happy endings of how well they are doing now. Showing that love and care can make their lives better.
