Intermediate Level
Learners will enjoy reading, discussing, and writing about The Binder of Doom series which is a follow-up to The Notebook of Doom series from Scholastic books. Students must purchase the books for this book club before the start of class. Students will read the assigned book of the week before class and take notes on the book using a brief outline from the teacher. Each student will have dedicated time to share their thoughts, writing, and art they created while following the book outline. During our class discussion, we will focus on how the vocabulary words are used, character development, how the setting impacts the storyline, conflict, resolution, and alternate possible endings to each book. Learners will fill in a book outline as they read the text before class. We will discuss each item on the book outline when we meet. Book outlines include vocabulary words, open-ended questions to inspire creative writing, a writing assignment, and an opportunity for learners to share their thoughts and feelings about the book. An optional vocabulary list with spelling activities will be provided for each book. Learners are welcome to share their fan fiction and art based on the book of the week during our class meetings.
