Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
The BFG is a fantastic story of a little girl called Sophie who one night is snatched by a Giant – luckily that Giant is the Big Friendly Giant who collects dreams rather than eating people. The story follows their unlikely friendship and their plot to stop the foulsome
giants who also live in Giant Country.

In this literature course we will focus on story writing skills and life skills.

LESSON 1
Creating interesting characters
In this lesson we will learn to not expect the expected. The BFG looks like a scary giant, but he's actually really friendly. We will create our own unexpected characters.

LESSON 2
Using creative vocabulary
In this lesson we will look at the "Wigglish" Giant Speech and decode his creative language. We will then get a chance to make our own words.

LESSON 3
Using similes and metaphors to enhance description
We will read about the bullying behavior of the other not so friendly giants, and then we will create our own terrible characters.

LESSON 4
Writing a short story
In this lesson we will learn how to mix up dreams and then we will write our own mixed up dream.

LESSON 5
Understanding human rights
We will look at the list of human rights and play a drawing game to guess the rights. We'll then decide what "Piggy" rights we should give to pigs.

LESSON 6
Writing dialogue
We will follow two characters as they fly off the edge of the map. We will then create a dialogue between a character who believe they can accomplish their goals, and one who doubts themselves.

These lessons are interactive and student lead. They may different based on student interest.
